Sage is an evergreen shrub of spiky leaves and stalks of lavender colored flowers. It stands about 2 feet high and grows 2 feet in width as well. The leaves of the plant are commonly used both fresh and dry to flavor a variety of culinary dishes and are an excellent accompaniment to savory foods. This is because of both their flavor and the fact that they aid the digestion of heavy foods. The leaves can also be used to brew a tea; the flowers are edible as well.

The plant contains an essential oil that can be used to flavor of variety of sweets and baked items. The sage plant has a long history of use for various ailments both external and internal.
