This evergreen tree, known as the Scot's pine due to the fact that is a native of the island of Scotland, grows to a mighty 82 feet in height. It actually can be found across the islands of Britain and farther south to Spain and northeast to Scandinavia. It has an edible bark that is considered “famine food” (that is, it is used as food when there is nothing else) that can be ground and made into bread. When the resins are released from the wood, a vanillin flavoring can also be obtained as a byproduct.

The leaves, wood, resin and seeds are all valuable and have a large range of uses from medicine to musical instruments. As a medicinal plant, it can be taken internally or externally, depending on the ailment, and heals many afflictions.
